Practical Training

Practical Training may take a variety of forms. The most common practical training is clinical training in a nursing or medical technology program. In this kind of practical training program, a student may receive a few credit hours of experience each week in a clinical setting, with his/her performance being evaluated along the way. Another common example is student teaching. Practical training may also take he form of a student working in a business office variously called an "externship," "internship," or "cooperative." (Not Cooperative as defined for DVA purposes.) Practical training must be specifically approved by the SAA to be certified as part of the student's enrollment. Because payment for approved courses involving practical training may be made on the basis of credit hours or clock hours, you should furnish complete information concerning the enrollment, including both credit hours and clock hours.

NOTE: Clock hours are 60 minute hours in all cases. Do not confuse clock hours per week with standard class setting per week.
