Warrior Duo Preps For Championships

Natalya Natyshak

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – For the first time ever, Wayne State’s women’s tennis team will be represented at the Omni Hotels/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships starting this Thursday, Oct. 17 at the H.E.B. Tennis Center.

The Warriors’ undefeated duo of Natalya Natyshak (Jr., Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey S.S.) and Leila Armin (Fr., Troy, Mich./Troy Athens) will face the No. 1-seeded Victoria Domina and Brenda Magnetti of Ouachita Baptist University.

Natyshak, a transfer from Toledo, and Armin, a four-time All-State honoree, have compiled a perfect 14-0 No. 1 doubles record this fall.

Last spring, Domina and Magnetti’s doubles team finished third in the nation.

This event, presented by the U.S. Tennis Association, determines national champions in each division for men’s and women’s singles and doubles during the first three days of play. Those champions then compete to become the overall national small college champs (for all divisions) on Sunday in the Omni Hotels/ITA “Super Bowl” of Small College Tennis.

This tournament is the only national championship event for singles and doubles at the NCAA Division II and NAIA level, and the only tournament that combines all levels of Junior/Community College (NJCAA Divisions I, II and III and the California schools).
