Head Coach Sean Peters
Head Diving Coach Under Peters tutelage, the WSU mens and womens program has not only grown in numbers, but in talent as well. When Peters first came to WSU, there were only ten women on the team and this year the tally has grown to 16. On the mens side, Peters has seen his numbers grow from nine to the current number of 16. In addition to the increase of numbers, the talent has also progressed at WSU. Last year, Peters guided then freshman Natalie Herbert at the NCAA Championships where she earned three All-American honors. Two years ago, Peters coached Andy Caulk to two All-American honors at the 1999 NCAA Championships. "Im proud that not only have I been able to increase the number of athletes at WSU, but the quality of the competitor has also risen," notes Head Coach Sean Peters. "With this higher level of athlete coming in it has brought newer ideas of training and race preparation that WSU has not seen before. In addition, weve been able to recruit and bring in highly touted individuals out of high school, and in turn weve been able to take anywhere from two to eight individuals to NCAAs each year." Not a stranger to the pool himself, Peters swam at Oakland University from 1991 to 1994 where he was a four-time NCAA National Champion (400 Free Relay in 1993 & 1994; 200 Free Relay in 1993 and 200 Medley Relay in 1994 where he anchored with a 19.87 time), and a runner-up in 1994 in the 50 Freestyle where he lost the title to his teammate. In addition, Peters was named an All-American 13 times. Peters received his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from Oakland University and is currently working on his masters degree in Secondary Education at Wayne State. Peters is single and resides in Southfield, Mich. |
