Wayne State Returns Core
To Battle For GLIAC Title

The Wayne State University Swimming and Diving program is looking forward to a big year. With the loss of two seniors (one male, one female), the return of all their national qualifiers, and the addition of 10 new athletes (six men, four women), the Warriors are primed to make leaps within the conference and the NCAA.

The returning national qualifiers are David Collins (breast/ Huddersfield, England), Christian Erard (free/Troy, Mich.), David Lutz (back/Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Chris Totten (diving/Garden City, Mich.) for the men and Natalie Herbert (free/ Stoney Creek, Ont.) and Laura Sangret (free/St. Clair Shores, Mich.) for the women.

Also returning are varsity record holders Tara Haggerty (free/Pleasant Ridge, Mich.) and Laura Lux (ind. medley/Alma, Mich.).

"We return the core of a very solid Wayne State swim program," said head coach Sean Peters. "The men were extremely close to winning the conference title last season and the women finished higher than ever (fourth out of eight). I feel both teams have the opportunity to charge up the rankings within the conference and the country, and I am excited to see how the season will take shape."

The Warriors also bring in a strong incoming class of transfers and freshmen to the fold. Key newcomers include junior transfer Brian Cahill (ind. medley/Rochester Hills, Mich.) from Ashland University, and freshmen Nick Markou (free/Canton, Mich.), Marti Murphy (fly/Bay City, MI), Brandon Peaney (diving, Lansing, Mich.), Amanda Marshall (free/Berkley, Mich.), Lindsey O'Neill (diving/Dearborn Heights, Mich.).

The swim teams host their annual alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 5 beginning at 10 a.m. The season begins on Oct. 18 at the Tom Stubbs Relays in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Warriors first home meet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19 against Hillsdale. First event begins at 1 p.m. in the Matthaei Building.
