WSU Defeats Gryphons, 6-1

The Wayne State University women's hockey team defeated the Guelph Gryphons, 6-1, on Friday night (Oct. 11) in an exhibition contest held at City Sports Center in Detroit.

Sophomore Cheryl Anderson (St.Paul, Minn.) scored the first and fifth goals for the Warriors, while freshman Naomi Kupferstein (Thornhill, Ont.) scored the second goal.

The third and fourth goals were scored by junior Katie Jones (Squamish, B.C.) and freshman Emily McGrath-Agg (New Westminster, B.C.) The final goal for the Warriors was off the stick of freshman Peyton Patterson (Brampton, Ont.).

Guelph's lone goal was scored by Lindsay Trimble.

Anna VanderMarliere went the distance in the Wayne State cage stopping 15 shots.

The Warriors will conclude their exhibition schedule on Oct. 12 with a 2 p.m. face-off against Guelph at City Sports Center.
