Tom OMalley, Head Coach
In October of 1999, the Warriors began its NCAA Division I womens hockey program and brought the prestige of being the only NCAA Division I womens program in the state of Michigan. In the Warriors inaugural season, Wayne State finished with a 11-0 record versus non NCAA schools and a 0-21 record versus NCAA opponents. OMalley currently posts a 137-198-28 overall record within his 15 years of coaching. OMalley, who was hired in May 1999, comes to Wayne State after coaching for 15 years at Boston College. OMalley guided Boston Colleges womens hockey program from the ground up in the 1980s and was also named the head coach as the university raised the teams status to Division I. He is proud of the fact that while at Boston College he won two AWHCA National Championship (1992 & 1993) and numerous other tournaments. OMalley started at Boston College as an assistant coach and took over the head coaching position in 1984. As the leader of the program, OMalley amassed the highest win total in team history. Besides handling all the teams day-to-day operation, including practices and games, OMalley provided guidance and direction through all the teams academic and athletic activities including scheduling, equipment inventory and maintenance, recruiting and travel, and even driving the zamboni. OMalley graduated from Boston College with a bachelors degree in economics from the College of Arts and Sciences, after graduating from Don Bosco Technical High School in Boston. He also played collegiate hockey at Boston College. OMalley, 37, is single and resides in Farmington Hills, Michigan. |
