Wayne State Womens Hockey Detroit, Mich. The Wayne State womens hockey team fell to Yale 4-3 on Sunday at City Ice Arena, going 0-1-1 during the weekend series. Wayne State and Yale posted a 4-4 tie in Saturdays contest. The Warriors are now 2-5-1 overall. In Saturday's game, the Warriors overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the first period as Wallis Finger and Nicole Symington recorded goals for Yale in the first three minutes of play. Wayne would respond with two goals in the later part of the first as freshman Kelly Zamora (Oshawa, Ontario) and junior Kelly Meech (Coquitlam, British Columbia) posted goals to tie the contest at 2-2 after one period. In the second period, Wayne took a 4-2 lead with sophomore Lindsey Akers (Lincoln Park) scoring two goals, both assisted by Zamora and sophomore Laurie Petchar (Saline). Zamora finished the game with one goal and three assists, to go along with her +2 rating. In the third period, Wayne couldnt hold the lead as Yale received goals from Ericka Hockinson and Karin Tilly to tie the score at 4-4. Four total shots were taken in the five minute overtime period, but no player found the net. Wayne outshot the Bulldogs 33-31, while sophomore Anna VanderMarliere (St. Clair Shores) posted 27 saves in net for the Warriors. |
