Wayne State Drops Opening
League Series To Mercyhurst

The Wayne State women's hockey team dropped the opening series of the conference season to Mercyhurst, losing 3-0 on Sunday (Nov. 11) at City Ice Arena. WSU dropped a 4-1 decision in the first game on Saturday. The Warriors are now 2-7-1 on the season, 0-2 in the conference.

Wayne State managed 17 shots on net for the game but could not slip a shot past goalie Desirae Clark. WSU goalie Tinna-Anne Thibideau recorded 36 saves in net.

Wayne State will continue the season at Colgate on Nov. 16-17.


Warriors Fall To Mercyhurst, 4-1

The Wayne State women's hockey team fell to Mercyhurst 4-1 on Saturday (Nov. 10) at City Ice Arena, beginning the conference season 0-1. The Warriors are 2-6-1 overall, while Mercyhurst improves to 5-5, 3-2 in the conference.

Wayne State's defense played a stellar game for two periods as the Warriors held a 1-0 lead after freshman Cheralyn Anderson (St. Paul, Minn.) scored at the 17:44 mark of the second period unassisted.

In the third period, WSU held their 1-0 lead with over 11 minutes remaining before the Lakers reeled off four straight goals in nine minutes to seal a 4-1 come-from-behind victory. Freshman Kelly Zamora (Toronto, Ontario) posted a team-leading six shots on goal, while sophomore goalie Anna VanderMarliere (St. Clair Shores) recorded 34 saves in the loss.

The Warriors and Lakers will play game two of the series on Sunday (Nov. 11) at 2 p.m. at City Ice Arena.

Nicole MontalbanoThe Wayne State women's hockey team visited the Children's Hospital of Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 6, donating coloring books and crayons that were collected during the first home series of the season.
