Warriors Fall At Findlay, 3-2

The Wayne State women's hockey suffered a 3-2 setback Sunday afternoon (Dec. 2) at Findlay to fall to 3-10-2 overall.

The Warriors took an early 1-0 lead on goal by Kelly Zamora just 8:07 into the contest. Zamora's team-leading sixth of the campaign was assisted by Cheralyn Anderson and Joanie Denby. WSU increased its lead to 2-0 when Heidi Burns netted her fourth of the year with 36.4 seconds remaining in the opening period. Burns' short-handed goal was assisted by Katie Jones.

Wayne State's two goal advantage lasted only seven seconds after Findlay's Melissa Oliver tallied a power-play goal with 29.4 seconds left in the first stanza.

The Oilers tied the game at two with a power-play goal by Janet Ploncinsky at 19:59.9 of the second period.

Findlay's Jenn Jessop break the tie just 38 seconds into the third period.

Ann VanderMarliere made 31 saves in the WSU net, while Erin Blair turned aside 21 Warrior shots for Findlay.

The Warriors will complete their pre-holiday schedule with two games at the University of Maine this weekend, Dec. 7-8.


Wayne State Ties Visiting Findlay

The Wayne State women's hockey team rallied with two second period goals by Laurie Petchar to tie visiting Findlay, 2-2 OT, Saturday afternoon (Dec. 1) at City Ice Arena.

The Oilers scored once in the opening stanza and took a 2-0 lead 6:26 into the middle period on a power-play goal by Monell Schroeder.

Petchar scored the Warriors first of the contest at 10:13 of the second period off assists from Kelly Zamora and Kelly Meech. Her second lamp-lighter of the game came with 4:51 left in the middle period with Kim Spaulding earning the lone assist.

Findlay outshot WSU 11-8 in the third period and each team had three shots on goal during the five-minute sudden-death overtime session. Warrior netminder Anna VanderMarliere finished with 28 saves, while UF goaltender Nickie Kelly made 21 stops.

Findlay was one-for-two with the power play, while WSU was blanked on its three chances.

Wayne State (3-9-2, 0-2-1 GLWHA) travels to Findlay (5-7-1, 0-0-1 GLWHA) on Sunday, Dec. 2 for a 2 p.m. face-off to complete the weekend home-and-home series.
