Warriors Fall To 10th-ranked Brown

The Wayne State University women's hockey team suffered an 8-0 loss Friday night (Jan. 4) to 10th-ranked Brown University at City Sports Center Arena in Detroit.

The Bears were led by senior captain Kristy Zamora, older sister of WSU leading scorer Kelly Zamora, who recorded a first period hat trick. Brown scored four times in the middle stanza and once in the final period to complete the scoring.

Brown outshot the Warriors 47-15 in the contest, with BU netminder Katie Germain stopping all 15 Wayne State shots. Anna VanderMarliere started for WSU and made 18 saves in 34:45 of action (six goals allowed), with Tinna-Anne Thibideau turning aside 21 BU shots in 25:15 of action (two goals allowed).

The Warriors, now 3-13-2 overall, went zero-for-six on the power play, while Brown scored once in four man-advantage opportunities.

Wayne State travels to Canton, New York, to face fifth-ranked St. Lawrence University in a pair of afternoon contests on Jan. 12-13.
