In the two meetings earlier this season, the teams tied in Detroit (2-2 OT), while Findlay won a 3-2 decision at home.

Wayne State University Head Coach Tom O’Malley

2001-02 Schedule
The Warriors schedule features four games (two at home, two away) against each of the other two members of Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Association plus 22 non-conference contests.

The season concludes when Mercyhurst hosts the second GLWHA tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24. WSU suffered a 4-1 setback to Findlay in last year’s semifinal match.

Assistant Coaches
This year’s assistant coaches are Alain Frankiewicz and Catherine Hanson with Mike Risdale serving as a volunteer coach.

Scouting Findlay
The Oilers lost two league games (3-1, 4-0) at Mercyhurst last weekend. Coach Adam Brinker’s squad is winless in its last 11 contests (0-10-1).

Sophomore forward Stasia Bakhit (6-17--23) leads UF in scoring and is followed by senior forward Monell Schroeder (6-14--20), junior forward Melissa Oliver (4-10--14), and freshman forward Tanya Truszkowski (4-10--14).

Junior Erin Blair (3-15-1, 3.51, .874) has started 19 games in goal.

Last Weekend
The Warriors split a non-conference road trip at Connecticut falling 6-1 on Friday (Feb. 8) before rebounding for a 4-3 overtime victory on Saturday (Feb. 9) to snap a 15-game (0-14-1) winless streak.

All five WSU goals on the weekend were scored by sophomores (Melissa Wenzel- 2, Katie Jones, Kelly Meech and Laurie Petchar).

In Friday’s setback, Wayne State trailed 4-0 after the opening period and was outshot in the game 44-21. Goalie Tinna-Anne Thibideau made 38 saves with double-digit totals in each period.

In Saturday’s come-from-behind triumph, the Warriors had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the Huskies scored two straight goals in the middle stanza for a 3-2 advantage. Petchar scored at the 8:36 mark of the third period to tie the game and WSU had to kill a late UConn power-play which lasted the first 35 seconds of overtime. Wenzel scored the game-winner at 2:12 of the extra session. The Huskies held a 47-28 advantage in shots with Thibideau stopping a career-high 44 in the overtime win.
