Warriors Begin Road Trip At Northeastern
Wayne State starts a seven-game road trip with a pair of contests at third-ranked Northeastern. The Warriors continue their travels the following weekend with two games at GLWHA opponent Mercyhurst (Feb. 1-2), who is ranked seventh nationally.

WSU Versus Northeastern
Wayne State has never faced the Huskies in women’s hockey.

Wayne State University Head Coach Tom O’Malley
Tom O’Malley, the only head coach in the three-year history of women’s hockey at Wayne State University, is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. Last year, O’Malley led the Warriors to five more victories than the inaugural season.

2001-02 Schedule
The Warriors schedule features four games (two at home, two away) against each of the other two members of Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Association plus 22 non-conference contests.

The season concludes when Mercyhurst hosts the second GLWHA tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24. WSU suffered a 4-1 setback to Findlay in last year’s semifinal match.

Assistant Coaches
This year’s assistant coaches are Alain Frankiewicz and Catherine Hanson with Mike Risdale serving as a volunteer coach.

Scouting Northeastern
The Huskies have a 18-2-0 overall record heading into Tuesday’s home contest against Boston College. Northeastern has won eight of its last nine games and is now ranked third in the country in both women’s hockey polls.

Brooke Whitney leads the team in points (31) and goals (15). Brooke White is first in assists (21) and second in points (30), while Kim Greene has 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. NU has outscored its opponents 63-25 through the first 20 games.

Chanda Gunn (15-2-0, 1.42, .946) has started all but two games for second-year Huskie mentor Joy Woog.

Northeastern defeated Cornell (2-1 OT) and Yale (4-0) this past weekend.

Scoring First
The Warriors have scored first in 10 of their 22 games this season, but hold a 3-7 mark when leading 1-0.

Zamora Ends Scoring Drought
Freshman forward Kelly Zamora (Oshawa, ONT) scored her team-leading eighth goal just 33 seconds into Saturday’s contest (Jan 19) ending the Warrior goalless streak at 244:19. Rookie Cheryl Anderson (N. St. Paul, MN) earned her team-best ninth assist on the WSU lamp-lighter.

Meech Lights The Lamp
Captain Kelly Meech (Coquitlam, BC) scored 9:21 into the middle stanza on Saturday, increasing the Warrior lead to 2-0. Meech's fourth of the season, and first since Nov. 17 at Colgate, was assisted by freshman Amie Hickerty (Calgary, ALB), her first collegiate helper.

Hickerty Assists
Rookie Amie Hickerty recorded her first two collegiate assists in Saturday’s game against Bemidji State.

Jones Records Points
Sophomore forward Katie Jones has six points (three goals, three assists) in Wayne State’s last 11 contests, after scoring five points in her first 11 games.

The Youth Movement
Four of Wayne State’s top seven scorers are freshmen. In addition to Zamora, newcomers Cheryl Anderson (2-9--11), Krissy Langley (0-7--7) and Heidi Burns (5-2--7) round out the rookie scoring leaders.

Freshman Amie Hickerty scored her first collegiate goal on December 8 at Maine.
