Warriors to Begin 2002 at Home
Wayne State begins the new year with a home match on Jan. 4 against Brown. Three of the Warriors last four games have been decided by one goal or less. Six of WSUs 12 losses this season have been by two goals or less.

Wayne State has never faced Brown in womens hockey.
Wayne State University Head Coach Tom OMalley
Tom OMalley, the only head coach in the three-year history of womens hockey at Wayne State University, is in his 17th season as a collegiate head coach. Last year, OMalley led the Warriors to five more victories than the inaugural season.
2001-02 Schedule
The Warriors schedule features four games (two at home, two away) against each of the other two members of Great Lakes Womens Hockey Association plus 22 non-conference contests. The season concludes when Mercyhurst hosts the second GLWHA tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24. WSU suffered a 4-1 setback to Findlay in last years semifinal match.
Assistant Coaches
This years assistant coaches are Alain Frankiewicz and Catherine Hanson with Mike Risdale serving as a volunteer coach.
Scouting Brown
Brown has a 5-5-1 overall mark and a 4-3-0 record in the ECAC Northern Division. The Bears are rated seventh in this weeks ((Dec. 10) USCHO.com Division I Womens Poll. Brown is led in scoring by senior forward Kristy Zamora (8-4--12), sophomore forward Krissy McManus (5-5--10), senior forward Meredith Ostrander (1-8--9) and junior forward Courtney Johnson (0-9--9). Junior Pam Dreyer (3-2-1, 2.14, .922) and sophomore Katie Germain (2-3-0, 1.61, .929) have split time in the Bear net.
Sister Act
Wayne States leading scorer, Kelly Zamora, is the younger sister of Browns leading scorer, Kristy Zamora. Kristy is one of Browns co-captains this season.
Scoring First
The Warriors have scored first in nine of their 17 games this season, but have a 3-6 mark when leading 1-0.
Zamora Continues Scoring Parade
Freshman forward Kelly Zamora leads the Warriors in scoring with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) after recording a goal and an assist on Saturday (Dec. 8). She has seven points in the last six contests.
Jones Records Points
Sophomore forward Katie Jones has five points (two goals, three assists) in Wayne States last six contests, after scoring five points in the first 11 games.
The Youth Movement
Four of Wayne States top six scorers are freshmen. In addition to Zamora, newcomers Cheralyn Anderson (2-8--10), Krissy Langley (0-7--7) and Heidi Burns (5-2--7) round out the scoring rookies. Freshman Amie Hickerty scored her first collegiate goal with 3:46 remaining in Saturdays (Dec. 8) game pulling WSU to within one goal at 4-3.
Power Play Lights The Lamp
Wayne State snapped its power-play drought when Heidi Burns scored a man-advantage marker midway through the third period Saturday (Dec. 8) at Maine. WSU had been 0-for-30 on the power play.
Dynamic Duo Between the Pipes
Sophomore Anna VanderMarliere started the Friday (Dec. 7) game this past weekend at Maine and turned aside 31 shots. VanderMarliere has WSUs only shutout this season, a 1-0 victory over Vermont on Oct. 13. Freshman Tinna-Anne Thibideau started Saturdays (Dec. 8) contest at Maine. She made 30 saves in the 4-3 setback.
Maine Improvement
Wayne State has played the University of Maine in a two-game series each season in Orono. The first year, WSU was outscored 20-3. In 2000, Maine outscored the Warriors, 8-1. This year, WSU lost by just a single goal on Saturday (4-3).
More Schedule Information
The Warriors play three of their first five games in 2002 at home, before embarking on a seven-game road trip which includes visits to Boston, Erie (Pa.), Storrs (Ct.) and Findlay (Ohio). WSU hosts Findlay to conclude the
regular season on Feb. 17.
