Warrior Women Post a 2-4 Record The Wayne State fencing teams participated in the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Illinois, on Jan. 11-13. On the womens side, WSU lost all three Saturday sessions: Temple (6-21), North Carolina (11-16) and Johns Hopkins (13-14). On Sunday, the womens team defeated Lawrence (17-10) and Cleveland State (19-7), but fell to Fairleigh Dickinson (17-10). Senior Melanie Duda (Livonia, MI) led the Warriors in the sabre competition with an 11-6 mark. Also competing in the sabre were senior Lesley Washburn (Detroit, MI), who had a 6-11 record and freshman Jinelle Lawson (Sand Creek, MI), who had a 3-14 record. In the foil competition, WSU was led by senior Inga Wallrabenstein (Osnabrueck, Germany) with a 17-0 mark over the weekend. Sophomore Kathryn Heffner (Walled Lake, MI) had a 4-13 record. In the epée, freshman Anna Vinnivov (Ma'alot, Israel) paced the Warriors with a 13-3 mark. Senior Amanda Collins (Yale, MI) and junior Sarah Murray (Livonia, MI) compiled 9-7 and 3-13 records, respectively. The Wayne State fencing squads next competition will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at Cleveland State. |
