Vinnikov Leads WSU Fencers
At Central Team Duals

The Wayne State University women's fencing squad participated in the Central Team Duals Saturday (Feb. 2) at Calihan Hall on the campus of Detroit Mercy.

The Warriors defeated Michigan State (17-10), Case Western Reserve (16-10) and Detroit (22-5), but fell to Michigan (11-16).

Freshman Anna Vinnikov (Ma'alot, Israel) led WSU with a perfect 12-0 record in the Epée competition. Also competing in the epée were senior Amanda Collins (Yale, MI) and junior Sarah Murray (Livonia, MI). Collins went 8-4, while Murray had a 6-6 mark.

Senior Inga Wallrabenstein (Osnabrueck, Germany) went 9-0 in the foil competition, while sophomore Kathryn Hefner (Walled Lake, MI) compiled a 6-3 record.

In the sabre matches, WSU was led by senior Melanie Duda (Livonia, MI) who recorded a 9-3 mark. Senior Lesley Washburn (Detroit, MI) had a 9-6 record, while freshman Jinelle Lawson (Sand Creek, MI) had a 7-5 mark.

Wayne State will be participating in the Ohio State duals meet on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Columbus, Ohio.
