WSU Captures Team Title
At Cardinal Classic

The Wayne State University women's cross country team finished first out of 18 schools at the 2002 Cardinal Cross Country Classic (5,000m) held on Oct. 5 in Louisville, Ky., with a team score of 63 points. Eastern Kentucky was second with 69 points, and was followed by UT-Chattanooga (78), Samford 9113), Southern Indiana (130) and Louisville (144).

Shelly Vickery
Fifth-year senior Shelly Vickery (Berkley, Mich.) placed second in a time of 18:06.20. Junior Amy Averill (Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian) placed seventh in a time of 18:35.50, while classmate Rachel Campbell (Sterling Hts., Mich./Stevenson) was 11th in a time of 18:46.50.

Also scoring for the Warriors were seniors Jenny Furlong (Livonia, Mich./Franklin), who placed 14th (18:47.60) and Lynn Moore (Warren, Mich./Cousino), who placed 20th (18:50.90).

Also running for WSU were freshmen Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo), who placed 32nd (19:22.70), Stephanie Sayler (Romeo, Mich.), who placed 58th in a time of 20:03.00, and Erin Porter (22:05.50).

The women's cross country squad will co-host the Michigan Intercollegiate on Friday (Oct. 11) at Kensington Metropark in Milford.
