Sept. 1, 2002 Wayne State Finds Groove,
After dropping game one to the Greyhounds, senior Jaime Banners dominated the second game, compiling eight of her match-high 17 kills. Megan Smolen scored five services aces in the match, to bring her weekend total to a team-high 10. It was a complete team effort as three Warriors had 12 or more kills and six players had double figures in digs. Rebecca Hague had her highest assist total of the weekend with 48 in the match. In the Warriors final match of the weekend, they made it a clean sweep of Bellarmine. Freshman Jeana Wiehl was on fire in the first game, connecting on five of her final six attack attempts. She finished with eight kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Banners took over in the third to close out the match. She was a perfect six-for-six on attack attempts and had a match-high 12 kills. WSU held BC to just 39 kills and .078 hitting percentage. The Warriors also doubled-up Bellarmine in digs, 62-31 led by BreAnne Detricks 14. Smolen recorded double-digit kills in all four matches, averaging 13.25 per match. Wayne State opens its home schedule Wednesday, Sept. 4 hosting University of Michigan-Dearborn at 7 p.m. in the Matthaei Complex. |
