HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Warrior volleyball team jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but lost the next three games at Michigan Tech to lose 3-1 (30-27, 25-30, 22-30, 26-30) on Friday Oct. 11. The loss marks WSU’s sixth straight in the GLIAC and drops its record to 10-8 overall, 2-6 in conference. MTU improves to 7-11, 2-5 GLIAC.

Freshman Megan Smolen and sophomore Darcie Amsdill led the Wayne State attack with 19 and 18 kills, respectively. The Warriors hit .267 as a team, its best hitting performance in 11 games. Smolen added a team-high 15 digs as well.

In spite of WSU’s hitting revival, the Huskies had four players with double-doubles led by Taryn Franznick’s 22 kills and 10 digs. Tech had a total of 87 kills thanks in part to Kristin Klock’s 65 assists.

The Warriors continue their U.P. road trip Saturday (Oct. 12) with a 4 p.m. match at Northern Michigan.
