Warriors Lose Eighth Straight At LSSU;
Hague "Sets" Career Mark

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The WSU volleyball skid reached eight matches Sunday (Oct. 13) as it lost to Lake Superior State, 3-2 (30-28, 27-30, 30-27, 23-30, 11-15). The Warriors are now 10-10 overall and 2-8 in the GLIAC while the Lakers move to 10-10, 3-6.

Senior co-captain Allison Jurasek tallied 19 kills and just one error for a .429 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Darcie Amsdill also recorded 19 kills for the Warriors and Jaime Banners had 18.

The other co-captain Rebecca Hague established a career-high 61 assists; her previous high of 57 was established at Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 20. Freshman Megan Smolen also tied her career-high digs’ mark with 21.

The Lakers hitters had a GLIAC season-best 88 kills led by the tandem of Courtney Dusnik (22), Kristy Kelly (21) and Ericka Marcus (21). Setter Leslie Newcomer had 73 assists, second-best in the GLIAC this season.

Wayne State returns home Friday, Oct. 18 to host No. 3 Grand Valley State at 7 p.m. in the Matthaei Complex.
