Wayne State Swept By Lakers

DETROIT – The Warrior volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-14, 30-18, 30-18) to the nation’s sixth-ranked team, Grand Valley State, on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Matthaei Complex. The loss was WSU’s ninth straight and drops its record to 10-11 and 2-9 in the GLIAC. The Lakers improve to 19-2 overall and 10-1 in the league

The Lakers hit a season-high .455 for the match with 48 kills and only eight total team errors. Ten Lakers recorded at least one kill, distributed by setter Nicole Bayle’s 30 assists.

On the other hand, WSU committed 19 errors and hit .093. Outside hitter Megan Smolen was the hot hitter for the Warriors. She had a team-high seven kills and .375 hitting percentage. Darcie Amsdill and Jaime Banners also chipped in with six kills apiece.

GVSU also outdid the Warriors serving as Sabrina Bird had four of the team’s 12 service aces compared to just two for WSU.

Wayne State hosts another nationally-ranked team in Ferris State (No. 25) Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
