Warrior Volleyball Swept By Gannon

DETROIT – The WSU volleyball team (10-7, 2-5) lost its fifth GLIAC match in a row with a 3-0 (30-22, 31-29, 30-18) loss to Gannon University (9-5, 5-2) on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Matthaei Complex.

The Warriors trailed the entire first game and lost 30-22. In game two, they led 17-12 when the Golden Knights went on a run, tying the game at 24-24. The game was tied at 27, 28 and 29 before GU won 31-29. Gannon went on a 6-0 sprint and on for 30-18 win in the final game.

The Warriors’ senior middle blocker Jaime Banners had eight kills in 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage.

Wayne State recorded 20 more digs than Gannon with a three-game season-high of 70. Four Warriors had double-digits in digs, Allison Jurasek (12), Megan Smolen (12), Rebecca Hague (10) and Kate Jere (10).

Katie O’Connor had seven of her match-high 17 kills in the final game for the Knights.

Wayne State will make the Upper Peninsula trip next weekend starting Friday, Oct. 11 at Michigan Tech at 7 p.m.
