WSU Losses 3-1 To No. 22 Bulldogs

DETROIT – The Warrior volleyball team fell to its 10th-straight opponent with a 3-1 loss to No. 22-ranked Ferris State on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Matthaei Complex. The Bulldogs earned their 20th win of the season and improved to 20-3 overall and 11-1 in the GLIAC while Wayne State drops to 10-12, 2-10.

WSU led 27-22 in game one, only to lose 31-29. Game two was a back-and-forth battle early, but the Bulldogs took the game 30-28. The Warriors charged back for a demanding 30-20 win in game three, holding the Bulldogs to a -.028 hitting percentage. WSU had one more kill in the final game, but FSU won 30-25.

The Warriors had three players with 12 kills, including Darcie Amsdill, Allison Jurasek and Jaime Banners. Megan Smolen also came through with 10 kills. As a team, WSU out-hit Ferris .188 to .170, but FSU had nine more kills than the Warriors (60-51).

FSU’s duo of Alain Olds and Karla Fairbanks had 18 kills apiece. Sophomore setter Ashley Green tallied a game-high 56 assists for the Bulldogs.

Both squads recorded 10 team blocks. Junior setter Rebecca Hague led WSU with a season-high five block assists added to her 41 sets.

Wayne State’s next match is Wednesday, Oct. 23 against Hillsdale at 7 p.m. in the Matthaei Complex.
