December 5, 2001 Wayne State Volleyball Coach Steps Down DETROIT Wayne State University Director of Athletics Rob Fournier announced today that head volleyball coach Loretta Vogel has resigned and a search for a new coach will begin immediately. "I want to thank Loretta for her service to Wayne State University and to our student-athletes these past three years," said Fournier, who is in his second year as WSUs athletic director. Vogel recently completed her third season as head coach of the Warriors and compiled an overall record of 32-54 with a GLIAC mark of 20-33. Her first season at the helm, WSU finished in a second-place tie in the GLIAC South Division with a 12-7 league record and had an overall record of 15-16. The following year, the Warriors were 11-17 overall and 6-11 in league matches. This past season, WSU recorded a 6-21 overall mark with a 2-15 conference record. She came to WSU after an illustrious career at Utica Community School (1997-99) and Fraser High School (1986-97). Vogel had an overall record of 465-96-31 in 11 years at Fraser H.S. including two Final Four teams and three appearances in the quarterfinals. Before coaching at Fraser, she served as high school volleyball coach at Manchester (1976-78), Napoleon (1978-79), Dominican (1980-83) and Ladywood (1983-85) in Livonia.
