Wayne State Splits Four Matches Wayne States womens volleyball Warriors went 2-2 against Division II competition last Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8 at Tiffin University in Tiffin, Ohio. The Warriors won both matches Friday evening by identical 3-1 scores. WSU defeated Missouri-St. Louis 30-28, 30-27, 25-30, 30-16, then handed Alderson the next loss 24-30, 30-20, 30-25, 30-21. Saturdays matches were both 3-2 losses for Wayne State. Bellarmine won 30-27, 28-30, 25-30, 30-28, 15-12, then Southern Illinois-Edwardsville won 30-26, 23-30, 28-30, 30-22, 15-8. The split over the weekend brings Wayne States overall record to 4-6. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Salisbury (Ottawa Lake, MI/Bedford Senior) led the Warriors in kills all four matches. She had 17 against Missouri-St. Louis, 20 against Alderson, 18 versus Bellarmine, and another 18 against SIU-Edwardsville. Freshman middle hitter Missy Mohrbach (Bedford, MI/Bedford Senior) is improving her blocking game, coming up with two solos and 22 assists in the four matches, which included eight assists against Bellarmine and one solo and seven assists versus SIU-Edwardsville. Sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Hague (Leamington, ONT/Leamington Secondary) was one ace away from the Warriors single-match record against SIU-Edwardsville. She finished with seven; the mark is eight held by three former Warriors, Sandi Lane (1990), Missy Odell (1990) and Rachel Parham (1986). |
