Warriors Swept In Pennsylvania

The two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pennsylvania squads swept Wayne State this past weekend. Mercyhurst College handed the Warriors a 3-0 loss Friday, Sept. 28. The game scores were 30-25, 30-27, and 30-21. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Gannon, the Knights won in four games 30-25, 30-19, 17-30, and 30-16. Both matches were in Erie, Pa.

The losses drop Wayne State’s overall record to 5-10, and conference mark to 1-4.

Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Salisbury (Ottawa Lake, MI/Bedford Senior) led the Warriors in kills both matches, with nine against Mercyhurst and 15 versus Gannon. Senior middle hitter Anavia McClure (Detroit, MI/Detroit Henry Ford) added 10 kills in the Gannon match.

The Warriors return to the Matthaei Building for three matches against the GLIAC Upper Peninsula institutions. Wayne State hosts Michigan Tech Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. EDT. Northern Michigan visits Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. EDT, followed by Lake Superior State on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. EDT.
