May 6, 2002 Wayne State Earns Detroit, Mich. The Wayne State University softball team has earned an at-large bid to the 2002 NCAA Tournament. The Warriors will be participating in the Great Lakes Regional beginning Thursday, May 9. The Great Lakes Regional, one of eight nationally, will be hosted by Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The 21st annual NCAA Division II Softball Championship consists of a double-elimination tournament at the eight regional sites, with the eight winners advancing to the NCAA Championship, May 16-20, in Salem, Virginia. Wayne State, a No. 5 seed, will play No. 2 seeded West Virginia Wesleyan in the first round at 11 a.m. (Eastern). SIUE is the No. 1 seed, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan, Northern Kentucky (No. 3), Grand Valley (No. 4), WSU and Ashland (No. 6). Click here for the complete bracket (PDF file/60K).
