WSU Splits With Grand Valley State

The Wayne State softball team split a doubleheader at Grand Valley State on Sunday (April 7), falling to the Lakers in game one, 4-3, and winning game two 5-4. WSU is now 18-13 overall, 7-2 in the GLIAC.

In game one, WSU and GVSU stood tied at two, heading into a decisive eighth inning. The Warriors took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth, however, the Lakers would score two runs in the bottom of the inning to win 4-3.

Highlighting WSU's play was sophomore Johanna Proulx (Brampton, Ontario), who hit her first home run of the season in a 2 for 3 performance. Junior Connie Milroth (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) took the loss, allowing two earned runs, while striking out three.

In game two, the Warriors returned the favor by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory. Wayne State was down 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning, before scoring a run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3.

WSU totaled 14 hits in the game with senior Kelly Kashmerick (Flushing), sophomore Maria D'Agostino (Wixom/Walled Lake Western), Proulx and junior Tiffany Korzetz (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) each posting two hits a piece. Junior Amy Thiede (Riverview) picked up her third straight win, allowing just five hits, while striking out five.
