DETROIT Wayne State University Director of Athletics Rob Fournier announced today the signing of a radio contract with WQBH Radio (1400 AM) to broadcast all 2002 football games and 2002-03 mens basketball games.
The relationship with WQBH is a major step in our goal of upgrading our athletic programs. With over 31,000 students, and over 200,000 alums in the metropolitan Detroit area, this access presents a great opportunity to display our athletic success, said Fournier. I look forward to working with the professional staff at WQBH to develop our shared initiatives.
The WQBH 1400AM family is excited about our new affiliation with Detroits premier higher educational institution Wayne State University, said Trienere Steinberg, WQBH General Manager. This partnership will give us both an opportunity to serve the entire metro Detroit community with first class athletic events.
WQBH is Detroits only community radio station that utilizes a full service urban format. The station began broadcasting in 1925 as WMBC and has been WQBH since June 30, 1982. WQBH is owned by Queens Broadcasting Corporation.
WQBH can heard as far east as Essex, Ontario, as well as covering the metro Detroit region.
The 2002 broadcast schedule begins on August 29th when the Warrior football squad visits Northern Iowa for a 7:05 p.m. (CT) kick-off. Broadcasters will be announced at a later time.
