Wayne State Earns Bid To
NCAA Division II Regional Tournament

Detroit, Mich. – The Wayne State men’s tennis team earned a bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament after finishing the season ranked No. 3 in the final regional poll, which was released on Wednesday (April 24). The Warriors earn a No. 2 seed in their respective first round match and will face Missouri-St. Louis (No. 3 seed) on Friday, May 3 in Big Rapids.

Ferris State is the No. 1 seed and will face No. 4 seeded West Virginia Wesleyan in the other match. Times for the first round are set for 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., however, order of play will not be determined until next week.

The top eight teams in the Great Lakes Region advance to regional play. GLIAC Champion Northwood will host the other four-team regional in Midland and will face No. 4 seeded Northern Kentucky. No. 2 Southern Indiana and No. 3 Shepherd (W.V.) will meet in the other match.

The winners of Friday’s first round matches will play at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. Wayne State traveled to Missouri-St. Louis earlier in the year with the Warriors posting a 6-3 victory indoors on March 1. The winner of each four-team regional (16 total) will advance to the NCAA Round of 16 on May 9-12 in Kansas City, Mo.

WSU finished with a 17-8 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the GLIAC. The Warriors placed third in the GLIAC Tournament on April 19-20.
