Warriors Defeat Illinois-Chicago, 5-2
The Wayne State University men's tennis squad improved its record to 2-1 with a 5-2 win at Illinois-Chicago on Saturday (Feb. 9).

The Warriors won five of their six singles matches. Recording wins were junior Rohan Singh (Dearborn, MI/Edsel Ford) at No. 1 (4-6, 6-3, 7-5); senior Mikolaj Pontus (Gibraltar, MI/Carlson ) at No. 3 (6-2, 6-3); sophomore Lech Czerwinski (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm) at No. 4 (6-1, 7-6); junior Hormis Tharakan (Ottawa, ONT/Brookfield) at No. 5 (6-1, 6-4); and junior Matt Akers (Mt. Clemens, MI/L'Anse Cruese Central) at No. 6 (6-3, 6-0).
WSU's third doubles team of Akers and sophomore Eduardo Carvalho (Santos, Brazil/Colegio Cenaculo) won their match 8-4.
The men's tennis team is idle until Feb. 20 when the Warriors face Grand Rapids C.C. and Aquinas College.
