Wayne State, which was ranked third in the Great Lakes Region, lost to Ferris State, ranked 25th nationally, for the third time this season. The Warriors were making their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance as a team. WSU also earned its first national ranking as a team during this season and have been ranked 40th in the nation for more than a month. The rankings are from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division II national poll. Second-year head coach Rick Cummins will lose just one senior to graduation - Mikolaj Pontus (Gibraltar, MI/Carlson). Rohan Singh, Mike Davis, Hormis Tharakan and Matt Akers were all juniors, while Lech Czerwinski was a sophomore indicating that the future of Warrior tennis looks bright for 2003. |
