WSU Swept At Ohio State The Wayne State men's hockey team was swept by Ohio State as the Warriors fell to the Buckeyes, 3-2, in Saturday night's game in Columbus (Nov. 10). The Warriors are now 3-5 overall this season. Ohio State defeated WSU, 9-0, in the first game of the series on Friday. Ohio State took a 1-0 lead at the 13:48 mark. Ryan Smith took a pass from Lee Spector, broke down the right side and put the puck over WSU goalie Dave Guerrera's right shoulder on the short side for his first goal of the season. The assist marked the first point of Spector's Buckeye career. The Warriors tied the game with a power-play goal with three seconds remaining in the period. Nathan Rosychuk put in his own rebound, assisted by Chris Vail, for the score. The goal was the first scored by Wayne State against Ohio State in 139:57 minutes. In the third period OSU got on the board first when Caponigri scored his second goal of the evening on a tip of a Mike McCormick shot at the 7:29 mark. Umberger also was credited for an assist on the second Buckeye power play goal of the game. WSU pulled goalie Dave Guerrera with 1:11 left and cashed in on the 6-on-5 advantage as junior defenseman Keith Stanich one-timed a pass from Jason Durbin past Betz. Ohio State was 2-for-2 with the man advantage and held WSU to one goal on five chances. The Warriors will face the Buckeyes again on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. The Warrior defense played well in the first period, allowing just one goal, however the Buckeye offense would be too much as OSU poured in three goals in the second and five goals in the third period. WSU recorded 26 total shots on net with Chris Vail leading the way with four shots on goal. Dave Guerrera posted 33 saves in goal, but was relieved by Brett Leone, who recorded three saves in the final eight minutes of play. |
