Wayne State Falls To BGSU, 4-1 The Wayne State men's hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback to Bowling Green on Saturday (Nov. 17) at Fraser City Sports Center. The Warriors are now 3-6-1 on the season. WSU and BGSU opened the series on Friday in Bowling Green with a 4-4 tie. BGSU got two goals in the opening period to take a 2-0 lead, which carried into the third period. Billy Collins cut the deficit to 2-1 by scoring at the 10:05 mark in the final period. Bowling Green would later add a short-handed goal and an empty net score to take the 4-1 victory. BGSU held a slim 31-30 advantage in total shots for the game. Wayne State goalie Dave Guerrera posted 27 saves in the loss, while Chris Vail recorded a team-leading six shots on net. The Warriors continue their season by hosting Michigan Tech on the Friday and Saturday (Nov. 23-24). Both games are slated to start at 7:05 p.m. The Wayne State men's hockey team battled to a 4-4 tie at Bowling Green on Friday night (Nov. 16), jumping its record to 3-5-1 overall. Down 4-3 with just under two minutes to play in the game, captain Jason Durbin punched in a power play goal with 1:45 left on the clock to tie the score at 4-4. The game would feature five total shots in overtime with none finding the net on either side. Tyler Kindle opened the WSU scoring in the first period by beating his man and firing a shot top shelf to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. BGSU would later counter with two goals in the final eight minutes of the period to take a 2-1 advantage. WSU would score two goals in the second period as Kindle struck again at the 14:34 mark, which was followed by a goal from Maxim Starchenko, who received the puck on a break-away and fired it past BG goalie Tyler Masters to give Wayne State a 3-2 advantage. The Falcons would add another goal at the 18:24 mark to tie the contest 3-3 after two periods of play. WSU goalie Dave Guerrera posted 30 saves, including three big saves in overtime. Nathan Rosychuk and Starchenko led the team with six shots a piece, while Dusty Kingston added two assists in the tie. Wayne State and Bowling Green will face off at Fraser City Sports Arena on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7:05 p.m. It is WSU's first home game since the opening series of the season against Ferris State in early October. WSU has since played seven-straight road contests. |
