Wayne State Rallies To Tie Bemidji State

The Wayne State men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit Saturday night (Dec. 1) to tie visiting Bemidji State, 2-2 OT, at Great Lakes Sports City in Fraser, Mich.

The Beavers scored twice in a span of 14 seconds midway through the first period. Andrew Murray opened the scoring at 12:13 and Jeff McGill scored at 12:27.

The Warriors cut the deficit in half when Dusty Kingston (Spencerville, ONT/Brockville Braves) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season at the 18:10 mark of the second period. Jason Durbin (Trenton, MI/Danville Wings) earned the lone assist on the WSU power-play goal.

For the second night in a row, junior defenseman Tyler Kindle (Portage, MI/Bozeman Icedogs) scored in the third period. Tonight it proved to be the game-tying goal. Kindle kept the puck in at the left point and followed his initial shot to the net. His first shot hit teammate Matt Milanowski, who played the puck to a breaking Kindle and his shot eluded BSU goalie Grady Hunt. Kindle's marker came 4:33 into the third period.

Hunt made 42 saves including 16 in the opening period. WSU netminder Dave Guerrera (St. Leonard, QUE/Estevan Bruins) turned aside 22 Beaver shots. Wayne State stopped all four BSU power-play chances and has now killed off 24 consecutive opponent man-advantage opportunities. The Warriors scored one power-play goal in eight chances.

Wayne State is now 4-8-2 overall and 2-1-1 in CHA, while Bemidji State is now 6-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the CHA. WSU concludes its seven-game homestand on Dec. 7-8 when defending CHA regular-season champion Alabama-Huntsville visits the Warriors.

Wayne State Falls To Bemidji State, 2-1

The Wayne State men's hockey team avoided a shutout when junior defenseman Tyler Kindle (Portage, MI/Bozeman Icedogs) went coast to coast and scored with 2:55 left in the third period, but the Warriors could not score the equalizer and fell to visiting Bemidji State, 2-1, Friday (Nov. 30) at the Great Lakes Sports Center in Fraser.

The Beavers (6-6-1, 3-2-0 CHA) took an early 1-0 lead when Todd Knott netted his sixth of the campaign during a scramble outside the goal crease. WSU, which had been 2-6-0 when allowing the first goal, could not reverse their fortunes this evening.

BSU went ahead 2-0 in the middle stanza when Riley Riddell stole the puck along the boards, cut to the net, and had his shot bounce off a Warrior defenseman and behind goalie Dave Guerrera (St. Leonard, QUE/Estevan Bruins).

Guerrera finished the night with 21 saves including 10 in the third period, while Beaver netminder Grady Hunt turned aside 20 Warrior shots. Both teams were scoreless with the man-advantage (BSU 0-3; WSU 0-4).

Wayne State is now 4-8-1 overall and 2-1-0 in College Hockey America. The teams will conclude the weekend set Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7:05 p.m. in Fraser.
