WSU's Guerrera Named The Wayne State University mens hockey team was well represented at the College Hockey America league awards ceremony Wednesday night (March 13) in Niagara, New York. Junior goaltender David Guerrera (St. Leonard, QUE/Estevan Bruins) was selected CHA Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches. Guerrera led the league in goals-against (2.34), saves percentage (.923) and winning percentage (.816/14-2-3). Guerrera also earned First Team All-CHA honors along with junior defenseman Tyler Kindle (Portage, MI/Bozeman Icedogs) and junior forward Jason Durbin (Trenton, MI/Danville Wings). Sophomore left wing Chris Vail (Grosse Pointe Farms, MI/Vernon Vipers) was selected to the All-CHA Second Team. WSU head coach Bill Wilkinson was voted CHA Coach of the Year. The 2002 CHA Tournament begins on Thursday with quarterfinal action. Alabama-Huntsville (No. 3 seed) will play Findlay (No. 6 seed) at 3:30 p.m. and will be followed by Air Force (No. 5 seed) at Niagara (No. 4 seed). The Warriors (No. 1 seed) will play at 7 p.m. on Friday against Air Force (No. 5 seed). Bemidji State (No. 2 seed) will play at 3 p.m. on Friday versus Alabama-Huntsville (No. 3 seed). The 2002 CHA Championship game will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
