Warrior Men Sweep at Northwestern Duals

The Wayne State fencing teams participated in the Northwestern Duals in Evanston, Illinois, on Jan. 11-13.

The men's team competed Friday and Saturday. The Warriors defeated Lawrence (26-1), Johns Hopkins (16-11) and Cleveland State (20-7) on Friday, Jan. 11. On Saturday (Jan. 12), Wayne State downed North Carolina (16-11).

Senior Ian Chapp (Detroit, MI) recorded a 9-3 mark in foil competition, while classmate Jason Jopek (Westland, MI) had a 5-7 record. Senior Rex Briones (Livonia, MI) also competed in the foil and had a 7-5 mark.

Senior Jakub Krochmalski (Lodz, Poland) led the Warriors in the sabre competition with a perfect 9-0 mark. Senior Jonathan Ferris (Southfield, MI) had an 8-1 record, while sophomore Marc Mathias (Mishawaka, IN) had a 7-2 record.

Freshman Wojciech Dudek (Krakow, Poland) had a perfect 7-0 mark in the Epée. Sophomore Patrick Hanley (Redford, MI) and junior Jason Murdoch (Waterford, MI) each compiled 1-6 records over the weekend.
