Warriors Post 4-0 Mark The Wayne State University men's fencing squad participated in the Central Team Duals Saturday (Feb. 2) at Calihan Hall on the campus of Detroit Mercy. The Warriors won all four dual meets defeating Michigan State (16-11), Michigan (20-7), Case Western Reserve (23-4) and Detroit (24-3). Freshman Wojciech Dudek (Krakow, Poland) led WSU with a perfect 12-0 record in the Epée competition. Also competing in the epée were juniors Jason Murdoch (Waterford, MI) and Stephen Briesmeister (Clinton Township, MI), and sophomore Patrick Hanley (Redford, MI). Murdoch went 5-7, while Briesmeister had a 4-6 mark. Hanley lost both matches he competed in. Senior Rex Briones (Livonia, MI) went 11-1 in the foil competition, while classmate Ian Chapp (Detroit, MI) compiled a 9-3 record. Senior Jason Jopek (Westland, MI) went 8-4 in his 12 matches. In the sabre matches, WSU was led by seniors Jakub Krochmalski (Lodz, Poland) and Jonathan Ferris (Southfield, MI) as both had a perfect 12-0 mark. Sophomore Marc Mathias (Mishawaka, IN) had an 11-1 record. Wayne State will be participating in the Ohio State duals meet on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Columbus, Ohio. |
