MILFORD, Mich. The 10th ranked WSU womens cross country team captured its second-straight team title and the mens team ran to a third-place finish in the 8k race as they co-hosted the 2002 Michigan Intercollegiate Championship at Kensington Metropark on Friday, Oct. 11.
The women won the 6k race, finishing six points ahead of Grand ValleyState, who is ranked third nationally. WSUs top five runners placed in the top 16 led by senior Shelly Vickerys second-place finish and Amy Avervills sixth-place effort.
On the mens side, Eastern Michigan, ranked sixth in Division I, won the team title with just 24 points.
Junior Mike Buslepp finished eighth and classmate Brian Goodwin placed 10th to lead the 18th ranked Warriors.
Both mens and womens squad now prepare to host the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26 at Kensington Metropark.
