Wayne State Men's Cross Country Wins GLIAC Title The Wayne State men's cross country team claimed the 2001 GLIAC Championship on Saturday at Ashland University, winning the meet with 61 points, while the Warrior women's squad finished in fifth place (127 pts.). The men, who finished first among 12, won the title with 61 points, followed by Ashland in second (64 pts.), Grand Valley in third (66), Hillsdale in fourth (106) and Lake Superior State (117) rounding out the top five. Individually for the Warriors, junior Nick Allen (Plymouth/Salem) clinched the individual title, running the course in 25:35.50, finishing 15 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Junior Joe Verellen (Livonia/Stevenson) placed fifth with a time of 25:58.30, followed by sophomore Mike Buslepp (Warren/Casino), who finished 15th (26:25.80). Junior Josh Burt (Livonia/Franklin) and junior Chris Burns (Flat Rock) rounded out the top five for Wayne, placing 19th (26:44.20) and 21st (26:50.00), respectively. |
