WSU Cross Country Teams The Wayne State University cross country teams, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Rick Cummins, have received national academic recognition from the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association. The WSU men's team placed 18th in the nation with a team grade-point average of 3.207. The Warriors finished 11th at the NCAA Championships and had the highest team gpa of any school that placed in the top 15th at the championships. Individually, Charles Stamboulian (Farmington Hills, MI/North Farmington) was sixth in the country with a 3.97 gpa. Also receiving honors from the coaches association were Brian Goodwin (Dearborn Hts., MI/Annapolis), Chris Burns (Flat Rock, MI), Mike Buslepp (Warren, MI/Cousino) and Joe Verellen (Livonia, MI/Stevenson). The Warrior women's team placed 21st in the nation with a team grade-point average of 3.461. WSU finished sixth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships. Individuals who received academic recognition from the coaches association include Amy Averill (Detroit, MI/Southfield Christian), Melissa Luton (Dearborn Hts., MI/Annapolis) and Shelly Vickery (Berkley, MI). |
