WSU Finishes Fifth at Northwood Invite

SAGINAW, Mich. – Led by freshman Jacob Abramson (St. Clair, Mich.), the Wayne State men’s golf team finished fifth in the 11-team Northwood Invitational on Monday, Sept. 16 with a team score of 311-309–620. The tournament was held at the par-72 Sawmill Golf Course.

Abramson shot 74 both rounds to finish in a tie for third with an overall score of 148. Other WSU scores included Chris Hill (78-76–152), Chris Hudson (79-73–153), Nathan Johnson (78-79–157), Kyle Gierada (81-80–161), and Blake Johnson (88-82–170).

Ferris State came from behind to win the tournament with a total score of 300-300–600. Northwood “A” was second with 291-316–607, followed by Saginaw Valley (312-301–613), Findlay (308-309–617). Wrapping up the team scores were Ashland (318-308–626), Lake Superior State (321-307–628), Northern Michigan (322-319–641), Mercyhurst (333-323–645), Hillsdale (333-312–645), and Northwood “B” (322-WD).

Ferris State’s Tyler Averdick won medalist honors as he shot 73-71–144.

The Warriors next hit the links for the Regional at Blackberry Patch on Sept. 21-22 in Coldwater, Mich.
