WSU's Johnson Earns Medalist
At Lake Superior State Invite

The Wayne State University men’s golf team began its 2002 campaign with a third-place finish in the Lake Superior State University Invitational held on Sept. 6 at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley, Mich.

Warrior junior Blake Johnson earned medalist honors after defeating Findlay’s Kyle Weisenburger in a playoff.

Johnson shot a 36 on the front nine to lead all participants and finished with a 74. Also participating for WSU were Jacob Abramson (76), Nathan Johnson (84), Chris Hill (88) and Kevin Zeleji (88). Kyle Gierada played as an individual and carded an 86.

Wayne State finished with a team score of 322 to tie Northwood. Lake Superior won with a 312 and Findlay placed second with a team score of 316. Also participating were Northern Michigan (332) and Hillsdale (334).

The Warriors will play in the Northern Michigan Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7-8.
