Wayne State University senior women's tennis player Rachel Koskodan (Shelby Twp., MI/Utica Eisenhower) and junior men's hockey player Dustin Kingston (Spencerville, Ontario) were honored for their success both on the field and in the classroom.
Koskodan was one of 10 student-athletes named to the 2001-2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Women's At-Large First Team as voted by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
With her selection to the district first team, Koskodan will now be on the national ballot for academic all-american honors. Koskodan maintained a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average in mathematics.
Kingston was named to the 2001-2002 Verizon Academic All-District IV Men's At-Large Second Team.
Kingston, who maintains a 3.91 cumulative grade-point average in history, also was named to the 2001-02 College Hockey America All-Academic Team as well as being selected CHA Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring the game-winning goal in both CHA Tournament games.
CoSIDA's District IV is comprised of colleges and universities in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.
The At-Large team represents athletes from the following women's sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle. The men's sports included on the At-Large team include crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, lacrosse, tennis, golf, rifle and wrestling.
