Wayne State Holds Wayne State University held its 2002 spring football game on Saturday, March 30 at WSU Stadium. The No. 1 offense led by senior quarterback Dan Gray (Belle River, ONT) scored one touchdown as Gray went in from five yards out on a scramble. He completed 11 of 33 passes for 142 yards with one interception [by redshirt freshman Nick Hall (Farmington Hills, MI/Harrison)]. Sophomore quarterback Randy Hutchison (Tecumseh, MI) led the Warriors No. 2 offense to one touchdown on a 24-yard pass to redshirt freshman Donald Thelmas (Port Huron, MI). Hutchison completed 13 of 24 passes for 118 yards. Recording receptions were: senior Nate Collins (Detroit, MI/Finney) three catches for 48 yards; sophomore Marqus Anthony (Ypsilanti, MI/Willow Run) three catches for 51 yards; junior Roger White (Sterling Hts., MI/De LaSalle) three receptions for 34 yards; redshirt sophomore Greg Luvisotto (LaSalle, ONT) two catches for 27 yards; Thelmas two receptions for a team-high 54 yards; junior Jorge Gomez (Oxford, MI) three catches for 21 yards; fifth-year senior Billy Siffin (Sterling Hts., MI/Stevenson) one reception for 15 yards; redshirt sophomore Robert Perkins (Detroit, MI/U. of Detroit Jesuit) team-high four catches for nine yards; sophomore Michael Griffie (Farmington, MI) one catch for three yards; and redshirt freshman Mike Hamoud (Dearborn, MI/Fordson) two catches for -2 yards. Four running backs carried the ball during the controlled scrimmage. Gomez had 52 yards on 11 carries, while redshirt sophomore Pat Harwood (Romeo, MI) had six yards on five carries. Eric Newton rushed twice for two yards, with Perkins carrying four time for one yard. In terms of special teams, Adam Nemer-Kaiser (Sterling Hts., MI) made one of his two 45-yard field goal attempts, plus a 23-yard attempt. Extra points were made by Jeff Roeschke (Shleby Twp., MI/Utica) and Stephen Wayne (Farmington, MI). The Warriors return to the practice field in August in preparation for the season-opener August 29 at Division I-AA Northern Iowa. Kickoff at the UNI-Dome is slated for 7:05 p.m. Central time. |
