Former Warrior Sees Action With Lions

Pierre BrownDetroit Lions wide receiver Pierre Brown, a former all-American at Wayne State, had one reception (in the fourth quarter) for eight yards in the NFL game at Cleveland on Saturday, Aug. 17.

The 6-1, 180-pound native of West Bloomfield was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Lions after finishing his Warrior career with a 163 receptions for 3,138 yards and 37 touchdowns.

Brown was voted WSU's Most Valuable Player on offense for 2001 after catching 57 passes for 953 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brown also returned one kickoff for 22 yards and one punt for three yards.

In 2000 Brown received Third Team All-American honors from the AP after posting 66 receptions for a school-record 1,492 yards and 17 touchdowns. His long catch of 96 yards came on Oct. 14 against Hillsdale. He finished that game with 10 catches for 232 yards and three scores.

That season Brown led NCAA Division II in receiving yards per game (149.2), while leading the GLIAC in receiving yards per game and scoring touchdowns. He also had nine games with 100+ receiving yards.
