Warriors Selected Ninth In Preseason Poll The Wayne State University football squad was picked to finish ninth in the 2001 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coaches' Poll announced Tuesday (Aug. 7) at Saginaw Valley State University. This is the highest the Warriors have been ranked in the Presason Poll in three years. Northwood Unversity received the top ranking for the second consecutive year. See the complete poll below. The Warriors were 4-6 in 2000, the most wins for the program since 1994. Wayne State returns 38 lettermen from last season, including 17 starters. Head coach Steve Kazor feels the Warriors are ready to make a big jump in the GLIAC standings this season. "We had a great recruiting class come in and we feel we can compete against anyone is our league," said Kazor, who is entereing his second season at WSU. "We have a strong offensive squad returning and we are expecting to improve defensively. We are anxiously awaiting the 2001 season." |
