Suffers 38-14 Loss To Indianapolis

Detroit, Mich. – The Wayne State football team suffered a 38-14 loss to the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, Oct. 27, at WSU Stadium, falling to 3-5 overall, 3-4 in the GLIAC. The loss is Wayne State's second straight.

Scoring opened up in the second quarter as WSU junior Dan Gray (Belle River, Ontario) ran a four-yard quarterback sneak into the endzone to put the Warriors up 7-0 (12:24). Indianapolis responded with 14 unanswered points in the second with running back Cha Schulte scoring on a 14-yard run (4:58), which was followed by a 22-yard pass from quarterback Matt Kohn to Cesare Manning with 2:42 left in the half to give the Greyhounds a 14-7 lead.

After the half, Wayne State scored with 9:12 left in the third quarter as sophomore Roger White (Sterling Heights) reeled in a 45-yard touchdown pass from Gray that tied the score at 14-14. That was all the scoring the Warriors would muster as the Greyhounds posted three more touchdowns in the second half and add a field goal to take a commanding 38-14 victory.

Gray ended the contest passing 12-for-26 for 190 yards and the lone TD to White. Junior running back Nate Collins (Detroit) returned to the lineup, rushing for 46 yards on seven carries to lead the ground game. Collins also hauled in six receptions for 44 yards out of the backfield. White finished the day with 75 yards on three catches, while senior Pierre Brown (W. Bloomfield) added 66 yards on three catches.

Defensively, senior Joe Spuhler (Macomb) led the Warriors with 13 tackles, which included an impressive six tackles for a loss of 16 yards. Freshman Jerrod Abro (Troy) posted six tackles, four for a loss and two sacks.

The Warriors head to Grand Valley State on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a 7 p.m. contest.
