Julian Selected To Play In Cactus Bowl The Wayne State football team received some great news concerning one of its graduating seniors. Tight end Huston Julian (Roseville, Mich.) was selected to play in the Division II Senior Cactus Bowl held in Kingsville, Texas on January 13, 2001 at Javelina Stadium on the Texas A&M-Kingsville campus. "This is a great honor for Julian and also a great honor for Wayne State University, said first year head coach Steve Kazor, who led the Warriors to a 4-6 overall record in 2000. "Only 70 players are selected to play in the contest and it shows that Wayne State is starting to receive some recognition with Julian being selected to play." Julian had some impressive stats for someone playing the tight end position. He had 27 catches for 379 yards and three touchdowns. Julian had a long of 43 yards and averaged 37.9 ypg. and 14.0 ypc. Julian is the first WSU football player to be selected to the Cactus Bowl since 1997 when Tony Hawk, an offensive lineman, was selected for the contest. Besides being able to play in another game, Julian will also have the opportunity to show off his talents in front of professional scouts. "Its a great opportunity for me and I just feel very fortunate to play in such a prestigious game," said Huston Julian who was a co-captain last season. "It really means a lot to me to be able to represent not only Wayne State University, but also the GLIAC conference. I was extremely surprised to find out that I was selected for the team." The Cactus Bowl has replaced the Snow Bowl, which was played in Fargo, North Dakota. |
